Cinque episodi per altrettanti personaggi che durante una visita guidata nei meandri di una cripta, si perdono, finendo al cospetto del misterioso e tetro guardiano, che li invita a rimanere e comincia ad interpellarli, partendo da Joanne (una Joan Collins fortunatamente ancora lontana dai flagelli di "Dynasty"), protagonista del primo segmento del film, l' unico ad ambientazione natalizia, "…And All Through The House": la donna uccide il marito, mentre la radio diffonde la notizia della fuga di un pericoloso psicopatico. Un uomo travestito da Babbo Natale si aggira intorno alla casa, ed il finale è facilmente intuibile, ma un "twist" imprevisto lo rende più gustoso. Questo è forse il capitolo più debole dell 'intera pellicola, ben realizzato, con le ottime intuizioni registiche tipiche di Francis, che amava anticipare prima di mostrare, suggerire in quanto antipasto dello svelamento dell' orrore, ma dal plot molto semplice e un po' scontato. La messa in scena è comunque godibile, nel contrasto tra orrore e ambientazione festosa, reso ancora più stridente dalle incessanti musiche natalizie, a sottolineare la fondamentale ironia del racconto.

Rather than begin his film with the birth of the saint, Kondrat instead chooses to open it with the birth of, well, everything. Beginning with the opening lines of the book of Genesis, the movie offers a brief survey of the creation of the world and the life of Jesus. Only then do we come to Faustina herself. It's an odd choice, but one that becomes clearer later in the film. After this opening montage, the movie settles into the first half of its story, that of Faustina's brief life. Well-produced vignettes touch briefly on her childhood and eventual call to enter a convent, one she initially exhibits a bit of resistance to. There's a wonderfully odd scene in which a teenaged Faustina attends a dance only to come face-to-face with a vision of Jesus, who promptly chastises her for dawdling on her decision. After that, the movie wastes little time in arriving at 1931, the point at which Faustina first claims to have had her most famous vision, that of Jesus clothed in a white robe, red and white rays emanating from his hands.
