Más tarde, Pete se va a su casa y su gato se mete por el conducto de ventilación. Una araña se mete a escondidas a la casa de Pete y asesina al gato, a la mañana siguiente, Mike ve a ver a Joshua, pero no lo encuentra y ve pisadas de araña en la mina de oro. Encuentra una pata de araña gigante y ve cómo las arañas salen de la mina. Mike se va a su casa, donde su mamá sabiendo que escapo, lo castiga. En la noche, las arañas van a la casa de Wade, que cría avestruces. Las arañas matan a los avestruces y Wade sale a ver, pero las arañas escapan. Col suo modo di mantenere un clima deleterio e scabroso (un filo carnevalesco) e di affrancarsi da ogni sfumatura, Stephen Frears poteva firmare un'ottimo noir, pieno di buoni e di cattivi. Aggiungere troppi buoni sentimenti ha reso la zuppa indigesta. Finisce che il film si autodistrugge nel tentare il pamphlet sociale. Tra gli smacchi che scandiscono la carriera anglo-americana di Stephen Frears, ecco solo un modesto telefilm in più. "Le strade dell'inferno sono lastricate di buone intenzioni". E Ken Loach è lontano.

Le casting est bon, Ewan McGregor est excellent, le film possède aussi un petit suspenses agréable mais rien d'extraordinaire. Sans non plus être le thriller indispensable c'est... Lire plus Ole Bornedal s'est fait connaître auprès du grand public danois grâce à son premier long-métrage, un thriller horrifique datant de 1994, appeler Nattevagten. Suite à son premier succès, un producteur américain fait appel à lui pour en réaliser un remake pour le compte d'un grand studio US. Et c'est de cette façon que Le Veilleur de nuit (1998) à vu le jour, ainsi que sa (courte) carrière américaine, puisqu il a par la suite,... Un très bon casting pour malheureusement un petit thriller sans saveur. Le Veilleur de nuit n'est en rien mauvais et son histoire est bonne mais pourtant je n'ai pas trouvé ce thriller à mon goût. Il me semblait un peu fade. Le veilleur de nuit est un film qui se laisse décemment voir, mais enfin, j'avoue avoir été un peu déçu quand même, attendant un suspens mieux construit et un peu plus d'action.
